Documentation and specification belong together

EN 10204 addresses types of inspection documents supplied to the purchaser in accordance with order requirements. It works alongside the product specification: requesting a 3.1 document does not by itself define the grade, dimensions or every required test. Reference: UNI EN 10204 ↗.

Include the requirement in the quotation

State the required document type and any additional project requirements in the enquiry. Ask the supplier to confirm availability, when documents will be delivered and whether preliminary checks are needed. Material inspection documents and company management-system certificates serve different purposes, so identify exactly what your project requires.

Check the connection to the delivery

On receipt, compare the order, inspection document, material identification and delivery list. Check that manufacturer references, product designation and applicable identifiers are consistent. If material has been cut or processed, or information conflicts, resolve traceability with the supplier before use and follow the project’s quality procedures.
